The trunks of Cabbage Trees were used to make footbridges and log walls for buildings. Their shoots were used to feed pigs and sometimes as vegetables for pioneer families. They were waterproof and, when cut in half, used as troughs to run water from springs to farms. Few of these trees remain in the Illawarra.
