It was erected by Chambers & Co, built of Turpentine timber, 470 feet in length and intended to ship blue metal from G L Fuller's quarry. The first cargo of metal was shipped in December 1880. Fuller bought the plant from Chambers & Co when that company failed. He added more equipment and bought the steamer, 'Platypus', for the blue metal trade. The jetty was improved in 1890 and Fuller ordered the building of a new steamer, 'Dunmore', which loaded it's first cargo at Long Point on the 16th December, 1891. Work at the quarry was abandoned in 1939 and the jetty virtually destroyed by heavy seas in 1957. It was rebuilt in 1973 by South Coast Basalt who reopened the quarry.PlaceBass PointLocationBass Point
