TitleLew Stubbs aged 93Photo Number002752Date2000DescriptionLew was born at Albion Park on the 4th June, 1907, the youngest son of John and Selina Stubbs. Apprenticed as a carpenter after leaving Albion Park School, he worked in bridge building in Mullumbimby where he met and married Essie Stock. They returned to Albion Park in 1937 and Lew continued working for the Department of Main Roads building bridges. During WWII he worked on roads, the old airstrip between Mt Keira and Wilton and the installation of the Tank Traps in the area. After the war he was employed at Tongarra Mine until 1956-7. He then worked at Tallawarra Power Station for a short time before joining Shellharbour Council until he retired in 1975. Lew built the Albion Park RSL next to his own home. When the RSL needed to expand, the Club used the old home and built Lew and Essie a new house opposite.
