In September, 1942, two 25 pounder field guns of the 14th Field Regiment were manhandled from Owers Corner into firing positions to support the infantry during the Kokoda Track campaign. The Regiment was assisted by a platoon of the 2/1st Pioneer Battalion. This was the only field artillery used during the campaign and assisted in halting the Japanese advance to Port Moresby.
