The vacant block on the left was once the site of the Terry Street Public School, built in 1872. The school was demolished when the new school was built in Tongarra Road in 1892.
A timber framed weatherboard school was built by Joseph Staff in 1872, on the western side of Terry Street (near what is today Russell Street). The cost was £265 of which £75.10.0 was contributed by the residents as required by the Council of Education as a bond of good faith. The school opened on 8 July 1872. Mr William Crawford who had transferred from the Peterborough School at Dunmore, was appointed the first teacher.
