Datec.1950'sDescriptionAfter the war, many of these concrete tank traps were no longer needed. Bert Ernest Weston successfully tendered for the contract to remove some of the tetrahedra from the wartime defences on the eastern and western sides of Lake Illawarra.

Following World War II Bert had built a large houseboat on the lake because of the housing shortage. The vessel featured three bedrooms and its own electric light plant and was moored near the entrance to the lake.

To transport the massive concrete tetrahedra, Bert modified this houseboat by removing part of its upper structure and fitting it with a winch. Using the converted vessel, he lifted and moved the concrete blocks across the lake. The tetrahedra were then reused in the construction of a breakwater at Berkeley Harbour.DonorWeston, Bert (Bertie) Ernest Last edited by: Sandra Driscoll
