The Horsley Estate, originally called King’s Gift, was a 2000 acre land grant awarded in 1805 by Governor King to Lieutenant Colonel George Johnston in recognition of his military service.
It was inherited by his daughter, Blanche Weston (wife of George Weston). The couple built their home, and Indian-style colonial bungalow on the land, and named is after the Weston family's home in England.
Lieutenant George Johnston’s Illawarra grant of 1500 acres was located by James Meehan 6 December 1816. It was named' Macquarie Gift', and was under the management of William Wilson.
Johnston’s son David, later received two grants of land known as 'Johnston’s Meadows' on the western side of the 'Macquarie Gift'. John Raftery was overseer of the Johnston's Meadows Estate.
The Johnston's Meadows Estate was inherited by their descendants.
