NameBeaumont JohnDate of Birth1820 Yorkshire EnglandDate of Death1886 NewtownBiographyJohn Beaumont was born in Yorkshire, England in 1820, and arrived in Australia in 1846.
Ten years after his arrival, in 1856, he married Catherine Dunn (nee Murphy) at Shellharbour.
Catherine had arrived in Australia, we believe, in 1841 on the ‘Gilbert Henderson’ with her first husband John Dunn/Donn. They lived in Sydney and on their immigration records, John was listed as a farm labourer.
The couple moved to Shellharbour c.1853-1854, where John worked as a shoemaker. He and Catherine had six children, the youngest being born at Shellharbour. John Dunn died at Shellharbour in 1854, and Catherine married John Beaumont.
Catherine and John Beaumont had two children –
John Thomas bn.1857 in Shellharbour (married Clara Jane Russell, died 1916, Sydney)
Anna (Hannah) Maria bn.1859 Shellharbour (married James King and Francis Phillippe Poingdestre, died 1921, Manly)
Catherine died in 1881, and John in 1886. They were both buried at Rookwood Cemetery.
