James and William were transported to Australia in 1836, aboard the 'John Barry', for their part in the 'Brentwood Gang', accused of stealing 25 pieces of printed cotton. Their brother-in-law Samuel Rush, received the cotton and was also charged.
William Shipman married Mary Anne Friend (daughter of John and Louisa (nee Moss)) at Jamberoo in 1849, but died just five years later, aged about 37. As he lived at Shellharbour, he was presumably buried at the Old Sand Cemetery at Shellharbour.
James Shipman married Mary (Biddy) Jordan. The couple lived at Shellharbour and had many children.
