Impressive rows of pines were planted along beach front reserves from the turn of the 20th century, increasing in popularity in the 1920's and 1930's with guesthouse style holidaying accommodation.
Pines were a favourite of annual Arbor days - especially following World War One, to commemorate fallen soldiers, arising from association with ‘The Lone Pine’.
