Robert moved from his home town West Wyalong to Warilla to take up his traineeship.

A BHP magazine issued to staff that detailed Aboriginal remains exposed in the sand dunes at Warilla, sparked his fascination with Aboriginal history.

Robert collected Aboriginal artefacts over the years whilst living in the Warilla area. He was a keen fisherman and would look for the artefacts on his travels.

Robert was also a member of the rifle club at Bass Point where he collected several artefacts.
