James King was born at Kangaroo Valley and was a descendant of Phillip Gidley King. James married Mabel Pearce and they eventually moved to a dairy farm at Kiama, 'Tabbagong', breeding A.I.S cattle.
James became president of the Wollongong A.H & I Society and a member of Kiama A & H Society. He was an outstanding auctioneer and well respected throughout the dairying industry.
J.N.King & Sons occupied a leading position in the selling of stud cattle, and established a branch at Shellharbour.
The park was officially assigned 19 October 1973.
