Named after John and Catherine Conway (nee Mahoney) of Shellharbour.
The couple came from Portumna, Galway, Ireland. On arrival in Australia, they settled on a farm near Bass Point.
John and Catherine had five known children - Thomas Francis, b.1857, Mary b.1858 (died 1858), John Joseph b.1859, Mary Ann b.1861, Katherine Elizabeth b.1870.
Two memorial windows at Stella Maris Catholic Church were dedicated to the memory of John, by his wife Catherine, in 1903.
