Named after John and Catherine Conway (nee Maloney) of Shellharbour.
The couple came from Portumna, Galway, Ireland. On arrival in Australia, they settled on a farm near Bass Point.
John and Catherine had five known children -

John Joseph b.1859 (died 1871 dray accident)

Two memorial windows at Stella Maris Catholic Church were dedicated to the memory of John, by his wife Catherine, in 1903.
John Conway Snr died at Waverley in 1898, and his wife Catherine in 1916.
