Named for Patrick Collins, one of the first Alderman on 1859 Shellharbour Municipal Council.
Patrick, born about 1821, arrived in Australia from County Tyrone aboard the 'Orestes' in 1841. Patrick's parents Patrick and Rachael (nee Woods) came aboard the same ship with his siblings Phillip 15, Thomas 13, Peter 9, James 5, and Rosanna 2.
Patrick married Elizabeth Flanagan at Wollongong in 1851.
