NameDunmore LakesGeolocation[1] DescriptionThe sand at Dunmore has a high shell content. The deposit of sand extends from the Minnamurra River and in 1980, covered an estimated 40 square kilometres (13 million tonnes).
The first commercial sand pit opened on the Minnamurra River sand barrier in 1971. Other sand pits were developed soon after, and in 1973, sand was removed from east of the Princes Highway, and another developed at the animal park at Dunmore.
This mine developed in three separate dredging ponds.
