TitleMacquarie Pass TrackObject TypePhotographDate2007DescriptionPhotograph of the original track that ran through Macquarie Pass National Park.
Macquarie Pass was used by local Dharawal People for thousands of years before Ben Rixon was paid 25 Pounds to cut a track passable to horses and stock. Between 1863 and 1869 the track was upgraded to allow heavier traffic. Residents petitioned the Council for many years to improve the condition of the road. The new Macquarie Pass road was officially opened 4 July 1898 by The Hon. J H Young, Minister for Works, and Archibald Campbell MP. The road became the main link to the Highlands.
