Several bubbles within the glass in each salt cellar.Provenance and SignifcanceThese salt cellars were owned by William and Sarah Thomas and brought to Australia, from Kent, England, in 1838, when the family travelled to Marshall Mount to work on Henry Osborne's estate.

The salt cellars were used by several generations of the Thomas family.

William Makin Thomas and his wife Isabella (nee Dickson), were unable to have children. They had a beloved pet magpie for many years and used the salt cellars for his feeding and water dishes.

William Thomas bequeathed over 1000 books to the Shellharbour School of Arts. A room to house the books was built by Isabella, in his memory.DonorFoulger, Carol
