he Tilley Lamp derives from John Tilley’s invention of the hydro-pneumatic blowpipe in 1813 in England.

Pressure Lamps had a tank at the bottom where kerosene was stored, and a small pump on the side to pressurise the fuel. The mantle contained a fabric bag coated in chemicals that glowed when heated.

Pressure lamps were popular due to the steady brightness of the flame.
