Date
19th Century
Description
19th Century stone fishing net sinker.
This stone fishing net sinker has holes drilled for ropes, and grooves for the rope of nets to sit in on the side of the sinker.
This sinker was discovered on Shellharbour South Beach in August 2020, after an East Coast Low storm.
The sinker is typical of fishing technology in the 1800's and was probably used by local fisherman to weigh down their nets off shore.
