Colonel Pyke served in WWI with a rank of Captain, and was later secretary of the Military Hospital at Randwick. In 1944, Colonel Pyke was appointed Assistant General Manager of the Disposals Commission, set up by the Commonwealth Government to deal with surplus war assets.
