An Article from the Illawarra Mercury 27 August 1887 suggests Bevan's Island tales it name from A Mr. Bevan who farmed a fishing station on the island in 1843, and resided there with his wife, family and aged father for several years. He was a brickmaker for Mr George Brown prior to this.
