The built the mill at the foot of what was later called Wilson Street, named after the family. The Wilson family home was on the south eastern corner of Wilson Street.
The Mill was also used for Divine Services prior to the building of Churches in the Village.
Rust disease in the 1860's put a stop to wheat growing in the district, and by the 1920's the mill was in a poor condition and had to be removed.
The flour mill served all kinds of purposes in the early days of the village.
The first hustings of the Municipality of Shellharbour were held at the rear of the flour mill Shellharbour on 4 July 1859, Robert Perrot returning officer, and the following declared elected as the 9 councillors: Robert Wilson, Andrew McGill, Patrick Collins, Ebenezer Russell, William Wilson, Robert Martin, William James, William Moles and Joseph Dunster.
