This miniature doll is made of bisque with movable joints. She has painted blue shoes, painted eyes, nose and mouth.

Mignonette dolls are reproductions of small French or German 'travel dolls', and were made to keep little girls busy during long coach rides or at home in the evenings.

Provenance and SignifcanceThis mignonette doll belonged to the Wise family.

Matthew Halley and Angela Marie Wise (nee Hogan) married in Victoria in 1942. They had several children; Daniel Patrick, John Matthew, Kevin Francis, and Stephen Bernard, and the family lived at Wollongong.
