'Westralia' was built for Huddart Parker Ltd. She was requisitioned for war service as an Armed Merchant Cruiser 2 November 1939 and commissioned HMAS 'Westralia 1' in 1940. Provenance and SignifcanceThis pennant was brought home from New Guinea by George 'Harold' Smith.

George was born in Jamberoo 21 May 1911 to Robert Smith and Annie Borrowdale. He joined the Army 30 March 1942 and served in Australia until sent to New Guinea 29 December 1945 where he remained until the end of the war.DonorSmith, George Harold (Harold)
