A gift from the Lord Mayors Patriotic Fund and War Fund of NSW 31 May 1943.

Includes -

1. Field dressings 'First Field Dressing - To open outer cover break thread holding flap'.

2 Dressings in waterproof covers. Gauze pad stitched to a bandage and safety pin. Directions for Use - 'Take the folded ends of the bandage in each hand and keeping the bandage taut apply the gauze pad to the wound & fit the bandages. One dressing to be used for each wound. In the case of head wounds where respirators have to be worn care should be taken to adjust the pad so that it does not interfere with the fit of the facepiece'. Johnson & Johnson Pty. Ltd. Sydney. 3. Cotton sewing kit rolled and tied with attached tapes and several compartments containing two needles, woollen thread, bootlaces, thimble with coloured wax inserted inside for protecting thread when repairing equipment, and cotton thread.

4. Khaki knitted knee woollens.

5. Khaki knitted woollen cap.

William was born 3 May 1914 to John (Jack) Augustine Raftery and Mary Bateman.

The family lived at the Commercial Hotel at Albion Park which they operated, before moving to 'Ravensthorpe', Albion Park, which they purchased of Mary's father, Dr. Arthur Bateman.

William enlisted in the 2nd AIF WWII - NX128095. When he returned from service he married Pauline Bernice Small at Kiama.
