Canned fruit production in NSW began in the early 1900's. A cannery was opened at Leeton in 1914, which reached its heyday in the late 1930's. The canned fruit industry was boosted during WWII as the food provided a large part of the supply for American and Australian soldiers serving in the Pacific War.

During WWII the Leeton factory commenced vegetable processing in preference to fruit and engaged Land Army Girls and even children to keep up with the demand during wartime. After the war, the cannery returned to processing mainly fruit.DonorO'Gorman, Austin & Betty
