George was the third generation of McDonalds to live at Marshall Mount, purchased by his great-grandfather in 1896.
George was actively involved in the community and elected trustee of the Albion Park Pioneer Cemetery and Marshall Mount Cemetery at Calderwood. He was a foundation member of the Marshall Mount Old Time Dance committee, dances being held in the school or the front lounge of Marshall Mount House prior to moving to the Hall.
