NameWally Block's Shoe Repair Shop (Former)TypeBuildingGeolocation[1] DescriptionThe Shellharbour Building Register states HJ & CM Spooner as owner/builder of a fibro cottage and garage on this site 1 March 1949. This shop (on Lot 36 of the Peterborough estate 3rd subdivision) was once the premises of Mr Wally Block's Shoe Repair Shop c.1950s. Mr Block was a shoemaker and he and his family lived at 70 Deakin Street, Oak Flats.
Mr Block applied to council to operate his shoe repair shop from the lower level of his family home, however regulations did not allow this, and he moved his operation to Purr Purr Avenue, Lake Illawarra South, where he rented this shop.
A photograph taken of the shop c.2000 reveals the faded sign 'W. Block Shoe Repairs' on the top parapet.
Further faded paint signs also reveal the shop was an agent for Ryans Dry Cleaners. The painted '6' - 6 hour turn around for dry cleaning clothes.
