Klein was a well known eccentric builder in Shellharbour Village and built many of the village houses from the late 1920s, until he moved to Sutton Forest, when he purchased 'Hillview', the former NSW Governor's residence.

This house was owned by Mr Barrett and later Ray Gamble.
