NameBeaton, AlanOccupationMayorBiographyAllan James Beaton was born at Wollongong 24 December 1911, to Peter and Edwin Beaton of Keiraville. Peter was a coal miner.

In 1931, Allan married Gladys Annie Richards and they had five children.

Allan worked on the railways. The family lived at Strathfield and Ashfield in the 1930's, before moving to the Newcastle area, then the Mid North Coast NSW.

By 1949, Allan and Gladys were living at 'Wyndspoint' in Darley Street, Shellharbour. By the 1980's they were living at Warilla.

Alan Beaton served as alderman for Shellharbour Municipal Council for 15 years from 1962-1977. He represented the central ward.

Mayor Beaton presided over the first meeting held at the newly constructed Council Chambers at Warilla in 1969. Mayor Beaton officially opened Warilla Library and the Warilla Community Centre in 1976.

In 1968, a memorial plaque was dedicated to the bravery of the men from the 6th Machine Gun Battalion who lost their lives rescuing crew of the Cities Service Boston which ran aground during rough seas at Bass Point in 1943. Mayor Beaton presided over the service.

Mayor and Mayoress Beaton greeted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip at Albion Park Aerodrome 10 April 1970, during the Queen’s official tour of Australia, commemorating the 200th centenary of the landing of Captain Cook in 1770.

In retirement, Allan and Gladys moved to the North Coast. Allan died at Lismore in 1985.
