NameCottage Adelaide PlaceTypeBuildingResidenceAddress5,Adelaide Place,ShellharbourDescriptionOn 22 September 1851, the Private Town of Peterborough (Shellharbour Village) was laid out. Peterborough was a grant of some 13050 acres, issued to D'Arcy Wentworth by 1821. The streets of the village were named after Wentworth’s family, including his daughters Mary and Sophia, and his sons-in-law, Towns, Addison and Darley.
Initially the village grew around the harbour. Shellharbour Village was the hub of the municipality from the 1850s, until the arrival of the railway in the late 1800s, when civic operations moved to Albion Park.
This Victorian Era cottage is a rare example of the modest style of homes built during that period. This cottage is one of the few 19th century dwellings to remain in the harbour side village.
